Annie's First Informal Swim Lesson

Jonathan: "When my dad taught us how to swim, he just threw us in the water"
Maggie: "Are you illustrating the horrific nature of your childhood, or are you trying to convince me to let you teach our baby how to swim?"
Jonathan: "It's the only way she's going to learn, Maggie."
Maggie: "There are lots of other ways she could learn, like we could pay for her to take swimming lessons."
Jonathan: "Why would we pay for lessons when I can teach her how to swim?"
Maggie: "How are you qualified to teach our baby how to swim?"
Jonathan: "Easy! My dad taught me and all my brothers and sisters when we were kids!"
Maggie: "Sigh. Okay, but please just don't throw her in the water..."

...And she loved it.

Happy Easter

With Love,
The Iverson 4

RIse heart; thy Lord is risen. Sing his praise
Without delayes,
Who takes thee by the hand, that thou likewise
With him mayst rise:
That, as his death calcined thee to dust,
His life may make thee gold, and much more, just.

Awake, my lute, and struggle for thy part
With all thy art.
The crosse taught all wood to resound his name,
Who bore the same.
His stretched sinews taught all strings, what key
Is best to celebrate this most high day.

Consort both heart and lute, and twist a song
Pleasant and long:
Or, since all musick is but three parts vied
And multiplied,
O let thy blessed Spirit bear a part,
And make up our defects with his sweet art.

I got me flowers to straw thy way;
I got me boughs off many a tree:
But thou wast up by break of day,
And brought’st thy sweets along with thee.

The Sunne arising in the East,
Though he give light, & th’ East perfume;
If they should offer to contest
With thy arising, they presume.

Can there be any day but this,
Though many sunnes to shine endeavour?
We count three hundred, but we misse:
There is but one, and that one ever.

Future Treky?

I don't even know how to spell Treky, Trekie,'s tricky, you know? I've never seen a Star Wars movie all the way through nor have I see one episode of Star Trek (is it bad that I compared them?) All I know is that Squiff is hilarious and probably belongs on an alien show. Breakfast with the Iversons, never a dull moment.

Here, Annie tends the Rosemary in our garden. Shod in her gardener's crocs, little squiff likes to water, prune, and occasionally weed our little herb garden. If you'd like some fresh dill, oregano, chamomile, rosemary, mint, lavender or basil, please stop by and help yourself.
We have more than enough to spare!

16 mos

From April 9, 2009
Here are a few of Annie-Blue-Eyes at 16 mos.

She looked so grown up in her cool green pants and sassy tank top...
I wanted to cry and rewind the clock.

Slow down, baby, slow down...

I Love Them

I love them.
They are like two perfect pieces cut out from my own heart and pasted on the green grass in front of me, watching the basil growing in its pot, set up against the soft twilight, lengthening dusk of soon-to-be summer days.
Framed by my kitchen window: he, tall and strong, and she, small and vibrant, so alive, walk side by side in the long grass with the last rays of sunlight bouncing in patches across their cloths and through strands of their hair.
Together they bend low to examine some creatures of the ground--ants, lizards maybe? She looks up to him quizzically, for guidance in perceiving the new lessons of this evening, and he nods as if to say, "All is well in the world, let's keep exploring until we find adventure in this yard." And off they go, the two of them, to catch some thing that slithers or creeps and discover new things by looking through each other's eyes.

I did not take a photograph, and for that I apologize. But I am not sorry. Because I, dear reader, missed not one moment of that gentle evening walk, the one watched through my kitchen window, the one shared by father and daughter. And it is forever engrained in my memory so that I will never forget it. For as long as I live...or maybe longer.

A Few More From Ze Beach!

1. Aunt "Ehm-Ehsss," MaMa & Annie braving the cold wind and crashing waves (!?) of the Gulf
2. Family Photo
Daddy sports his Spring Break Beard

3. Annie waves at a Seagull...

4. ...the Seagull does not wave back

Spring Break '09 and "Joel! Joel!"

Annie is incredibly blessed to have some awesome aunts and uncles.
Of these, two are Joel and Mary Stuart. They invited us up to Pensacola to enjoy a beach condo MS won for being such a great Harry Norman Real Estate agent. Go Mary Stuart! If you need to buy a house in the Atlanta area, check out her website,
ANYWAY, to celebrate Joel's birthday and get some good family time, we drove 8 hours up to the beach (a strange practice for this FL girl who is used to driving 45 mins) but boy was it worth it! More than 2 weeks later, Annie still remembers Joel and MS. We were looking through a photo album today and came across a random picture of Joel and Mary Stuart and Annie pointed to their picture and cried, "Joel! Joel!" It took me a moment to realize that she was recognizing Joel over two weeks after we were with them! What a joy and a blessing
Among sunbathing on the cloudy, cold, windy panhandle beaches, we were also able to:
1. Enjoy some family time!
2. Experience sophisticated new foods like crudites and hummus
3. Fly Fighter Jets with Da at the Naval Museum
4. See the Daniel Iverson II WWII airplane (like the real one!)
5. Catch up on some much needed rest

Thanks Atlanta Iverson!
We LOVE you!!

I'm Kreative Two!!

Y'all, I am serious. I received the "kreativ blogger" award twice! Granted, I think it's just because Jessica doesn't know many other bloggers, but still, this is exciting. Would it be obnoxious to paste the picture twice in this post!? I'm doing it anyway. Try and stop me...

Here are the rules:
When given the award you list 7 things that you love, and then pass the award on to 7 bloggers that you love! Be sure to tag them and let them know that they have won.

Seven Things I LOVE

1. Jonathan David Iverson

2. Anne Oliver "Squiff" Iverson

3. Bump Iverson

4. The bright orange and pink flowers I just planted in pots by our front door

5. Gerard Manly Hopkins poems, and really, all things "counter, original, spare, strange, freckled and fickle..."

6. Watching Annie learn a language

7. Dreaming up a future with Jonathan

Seven Bloggers I LOVE

1. The Nolls!

2. Amuse Bouche, of course

3. Carly May

4. Blueberry Lunch who awarded me

5. MarshmallowMinis who awarded me
6. Martha Iverson's blog that exists but has not been updated since last summer...
7. Mary Stuart's blog that doesn't exist yet

*Note: Yes, I realize that seven bloggers is a large number, and thus, by multiplcation, there are probably significant numbers of bloggers in the blogging community receiving this inflated award. Jonathan wants me to lie and say that I won $1,000,000.00 along with this award and that I gave it all away to charity, but since "I am not my own but belong body and soul to Jesus Christ," I will not lie. Hmph! I will, however, recognize that this award only exposes the inconsistent manner (although kreative!) in which I post. Forgive me. I'll try to do better. xo
